Annual Dinner 2010
At Stationers' Hall on 26th March 2010, our AGM was most
competently hosted by President Michael Facey - and it may well take the record
as being one of our shortest ever!
Michael Has been most supportive to all areas of the OSA during his year, but he was most expressive in his thanks to all his fellow committee members for their willing support and help. He especially mentioned (both during the AGM and at the Dinner afterwards) Tim Westbrook, Mike Pinfield and the rest of those responsible for the successful completion of Phase One for the digitisation of the OSA archive and its up-load to this web-site. (Tim collated all the copies of 'The Old Stationer' and through his powers of persuasion was able to recruit & organise several others to help with the mammoth task of scanning. Mike (the Web Site Manager) did a "Harry Potter" and was able to wave his magic wand to turn them all into on-line "Page Turners" while uploading them all. Mike also remained personally responsible for some of the more difficult scanning 'challenges' and overall clarity & readability.
Of course, being Old Stationers even after this the briefest of AGMs, there was a rush to the "Aperitifs' Area" for throat lubrications for a short while before Mike Pinfield - as Toastmaster this time! - urged 97 Members and Guests to take their places for "First Sitting"!
So that those who attended may re-live the evening - & for those gastronomes amongst you who were unable to be there, the Hall's Chef delighted us with...
Salmon & Chive Fishcakes
Crispy Coz Salad & Tartare Crème Fraiche Dressing
***
Daube of Beef with Tarragon Dumplings
Celeriac Mashed Potatoes
Roasted Seasonal Vegetables
***
Pear Tartin with Cinnamon Ice Cream
& Caramel Coulis
As usual, no dinner for Old Stationers could be considered satisfactory without the intervention of Bacchus, who proffered liberal amounts of Neblina Sauvignon Blanc - & Red Burgundy, Vincent Baron - as well the Hall's excellent Port.
The President shared the traditional Loving Cup with all, & coffee followed with Hand-made Chocolates & Petit Fours.
Our Guest Speaker was Daniel G Lillis JP KHS AM MICFM, who shared some of his experiences "on the Bench" with us - as well as peppering his talk with a few details of his trips abroad as a Government Adviser. Our usual Guests of Honour - The Master of the Stationers' Company, Richard Brewster & the new Clerk, William Alden - were welcomed in true Old Stationers fashion.
The outgoing President Michael Facey proudly presented an OSA tie to the Master as a memento of his last 'official' meeting with the OSA. The OSA's is always fondly remembered as a "Home Fixture" for the Master of the Company, and this year Richard Brewster mentioned some of the ways in which the Company was assisting education, as it has done for so long, which now included Bursaries for "Stationers' Scholars"
