Old Stationers'
Bridge Club
Welcome to the Home page of the newly formed OSBC - the Old Stationers' Bridge Club. Although still very much a fledgling, our new 'baby' is enjoying a growing support. David Hudson - a keen player (& competitive at a fairly high level...) has sent in an initial report, which is displayed here for all to see.
"March 2009.
The OSA Bridge Club is alive and well and winning. Well at least we won our comeback game. There are a number of Old Stationers who are regular bridge players & who were keen to have a bridge match representing the OSA. After many discussions and much organisation a match was arranged against Brookmans Park Golf Club which was held on 27th January 2009.
David Turner, with a foot in both camps, was our main host and organiser of the day. The match was arranged for a 6.00 p.m. start & to be sociable we all dined beforehand, together with our opponents. To be even more sociable and to make a day of it four of us also played golf in the morning.
The bridge match was a 'Teams of 4' event. Our team was remarkable in one way in that it comprised our current association President Peter Bonner (2008) together, with the 3 previous presidents David Turner (2007) David Hudson (2006) and Roger Engledow (2005). We won the match convincingly by 78 IMPS to 18 IMPS. Roger and David bid and made two slams which scored well for us when the Golf Club failed to bid them.
The whole team played well and scored consistently throughout. It was a very enjoyable occasion, as indeed was the whole day. A rematch will be arranged - and other possible matches are being investigated. It would be good to find some more players for our team particularly with a view to arranging a 'Teams of 8' event in the future. I shall be very pleased to hear from any Old Boys who are interested in playing or could help arrange other matches.
